About Us
19 Jul 2008
On World Day for Laboratory Animals we should all take a moment to reflect on the unimaginable suffering of animals used for research. Although we can’t see them in our laboratories, that shouldn’t mean we don’t care. It also shouldn’t mean we don’t question whether or not they should be used at all. I care deeply about both human and animal suffering so I wholeheartedly support medical research into illnesses like cancer or heart disease but without animal testing. I don’t believe that animals need to suffer in laboratories when there are now so many more humane and reliable ways we can research diseases using cutting-edge non-animal methods. I so often hear people say ‘But if I had to choose between a monkey or my child…” but the truth is we don’t need to choose. Medical research by charities like the Dr Hadwen Trust demonstrates that science without suffering is the way forward, for the sake of people and animals alike.
