Medical research is vital because it is aimed at alleviating human suffering but if there is a way of achieving that goal without causing animals suffering either, it has my wholehearted support. If we want to see an end to animal testing, we must give non-animal research our full support or our hopes will never be realised. Charities like the Dr Hadwen Trust are vital in discovering new ways to replace animals in the laboratory and research into illnesses like cancer, Parkinson’s disease and AIDS are already benefiting from these new approaches.
