Lenka makes Marathon effort
Date: 22nd April 12
Wandsworth resident Lenka Zivcakova will be running this year’s London Marathon to raise money for the Dr Hadwen Trust (DHT).
The DHT is the UK’s leading medical research charity that has for 42 years funded ground-breaking medical research that does not harm any animals and has helped in the fight against diseases such as cancer, heart disease and mental health disorders.
The Virgin London Marathon, on April 22, will be Lenka’s first marathon and she is using it as an opportunity to raise £2,500 for her chosen charity.
Lenka, 31, said: “I have raised funds for other medical research charities in the past but the fact that the DHT only supports cutting-edge projects as an alternative to animal experiments meant it was the obvious choice for my fundraising efforts.
“The training has been pretty gruelling, but knowing that I am raising money for a charity at the forefront of ethical medical research has really motivated me, particularly on the cold winter mornings.”
Kailah Eglington, Chief Executive of the DHT, said: “We are delighted Lenka has chosen to raise money for the DHT. Our work is funded solely through charitable donations, and fundraising efforts like Lenka’s make a huge difference. We wish Lenka all the best for the big day and encourage everyone to support her efforts.”
