Gala dinner: the Dr Hadwen Trust's 35th anniversary

The Dr Hadwen Trust held a celebratory gala dinner at the Hilton Hotel near Paddington Station, on Saturday 15th October 2005 in honour of its 35 years.

The candles were lit, the wine chilled and party poppers a-plenty were at the ready. The 200 excited guests, including celebrities, supporters and key animal advocates, had arrived and everyone was ready for an absolutely fabulous evening.

We were delighted to be joined by our celebrity guests – Dr Hadwen Trust patron Joanna Lumley, Wendy Turner-Webster (Pet Rescue), Carol Royle, actress Rebecca Callard (the Burrowers) and comedian Sean Hughes (Last Detective and Never Mind the Buzzcocks).

Joanna Lumley took to the stage to present the Trust’s OSCAR awards for ‘OutStanding Contribution to Animal Replacement’. Recipients were Dr Gill Langley, Professor Shah and long-standing volunteer fundraiser Joan Fitzgerald.

At the end of the evening the Trust’s General Secretary Terry Huxtable reflected, “Once in a while something magical can happen for a charity that brings people together in a way that renews all your beliefs and fervour for the cause. The Gala Dinner brought that home to me. It was wonderful to meet so many supporters who all share a deeply-felt conviction in the importance of the Dr Hadwen Trust’s mission. The Dr Hadwen Trust really does have the best and most loyal supporters.”
