Cats - General Research
The Dr Hadwen Trust has funded life-saving research into a wide range of conditions including cancer, meningitis, asthma, diabetes, Multiple sclerosis, arthritis, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, AIDS, liver disease, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, bone disease, brain tumours and cystic fibrosis - all without experiments on animals.
Dogs - Bone Disease Research
Current research into bone diseases using animals often falls into moderate or substantial severity bands, uses large numbers of animals (including dogs) and the results do not reflect human physiology.
Mice - Abdominal Pain Research
Extensive studies into abdominal pain have been carried out using rats and mice. However, differences exist in drug efficacy between rodents and man, making the research of very little value to human health.
Monkeys - Brain Research
The projects we fund into brain research are using highly sophisticated technology to produce more human-relevant and far-reaching results than the current invasive experiments conducted on monkeys.
Rabbits - Arthritic Pain Research
Fifty years of research into pain using animals has yielded very few results. The Dr Hadwen Trust-funded project at Manchester has been taking a different approach.
Guinea pigs - Epilepsy Research
Research into epilepsy currently uses a large number of animals, including guinea pigs. The results are of limited value as they do not fully capture the complex electrical patterns of the human condition and have failed to assist in the design of evidence based drugs for treatment.
