Everyday ways to help

Donate by Text

JustTextGiving

A great new way of donating to the DHT is texting from a mobile phone.

By simply texting HADW01£ and either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 to 70070 you can make a donation to the DHT.

The text message is free, there are no charges on any network and all of the donation will be passed to the DHT. You can also add Gift Aid which means we benefit from an extra 25%.

This is a new, free service for charities which is provided by Vodafone and JustGiving. Please visit http://www.justtextgiving.co.uk/ to learn more.

Old printer cartridges

This scheme not only benefits us with money raised for each item collected, it also helps the environment.

Send your old printer cartridges and mobile phones to recycle4charity.co.uk and select the Dr Hadwen Trust as the charity to benefit. Call or email us for envelopes in which to send your goods.

Please note that currently they can only accept Cannon, Dell, HP, Lexmark and some Brother and Samsung Inkjet cartridges. They do not accept Epson or Kodak cartridges.

If you work for a large organisation, why not have a box installed in which to collect all the used printer cartridges.

Unwanted banknotes & jewellery

Donate any unwanted jewellery or old & new banknotes for ANY country, such as; Irish Punt, Deutschemarks, Guilders, French Francs, Pesetas, Dollars, Euros ... the list is endless.

Give a car

Do you own a banger that's merely gathering dust in the garage?  Then you can do your bit for the DHT.

Giveacar is a UK based fundraising organisation that specialises in donating unwanted and scrap cars to charitable causes throughout the world, including the DHT.

They provide a FREE service which is available throughout the UK, and can work with you hand-in-hand in the following ways:

  • They can arrange the collection of the vehicle
  • Depending on its age and condition, they can either send it for environmentally safe disposal and recycling at an authorised treatment facility, or to a salvage auction;

This means that a large portion of the proceeds are donated to the DHT.

Since Giveacar was set up in 2010, the organisation has already raised over £350,000 for over 250 charities.

To arrange collection of a car, visit Giveacar.co.uk or call 020 0011 1664, quoting The Dr Hadwen Trust as your preferred charity.

To make your donation go even further, please sign a Gift Aid declaration to allow us to reclaim the tax you have paid on it. You must pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax in each year at least equal to the tax that we will reclaim from HMRC.

Please sign the Gift Aid declaration and return it to us. Thank you.

Gift Giving

If you have a birthday, wedding or other celebration coming up, why not ask for donations to be given to the Dr Hadwen Trust in lieu of gifts? You can do this online at JustGiving.com, on our website or through the post. This kind gesture will help us to continue to fund cutting-edge medical research which replaces experiments on animals, saving them from pain and suffering and benefiting human health with more relevant science.

Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving is a HM Customs & Revenue scheme that enables employees to donate tax free through their pay to any charity in the UK.

On each payday, an amount of your choice is deducted by your payroll department and sent to the Dr Hadwen Trust. Your donations are taken before tax, meaning that for every £1 you give it will only cost you 80p (60p if you are a higher rate tax payer) – the taxman will pay the rest.

This is an easy, tax-effective way to give to charity – so it costs you less to give more. The system is easy to opt in and out of, giving you full control over your gifts.

Ask if your organisation has a payroll giving system in place and encourage them to sign up to one if they haven’t. There are several agencies that administer payroll giving, a list can be found on the HMRC website.

Payroll giving is a great way for companies to demonstrate commitment to the causes that their employees care about. It is quick and easy to set-up and administer. Payroll giving can also aid retention and recruitment of staff, and enable them to generate a sustainable income stream to charities.

Match Giving

Many employers now match the gifts their staff give to charity. Companies operating a ‘match giving’ scheme will generally give £1 for every £1 that an employee gives and have an annual limit per employee.

This can be done through payroll giving or by matching employees’ donations or funds raised for charities. Some organisations may also ‘pay’ employees for time spent volunteering.

Match Giving boosts the morale of staff, encouraging them to support charities and helps the organisation reduce its tax bill, there is no Corporation Tax paid on Match Giving donations. It helps raise the company’s profile and generates a positive image. Ask your company about Match Giving today.
