This study will monitor changes in bacterial populations in CF patient sputum to improve our understanding of what happens during exacerbations and periods of stability. The project will also test the usefulness of an artificial sputum medium (ASM) as an alternative to animals, such as genetically altered mice, for studying the behaviour of bacterial populations in response to challenge with antibiotics.
